Become an AI Orchestrator

My journey with AI started with a friend who's now my mentor. He challenged me to be curious and helped me (about 95%) build my AI partner, Penelope.

Now, before you think I'm so smart, let me be honest. I don't believe I'm extraordinary by any means. In fact, I think I'm just average. And that's the point. Don't let AI scare you. Let it empower you.

I recently went to a conference and was beyond nervous. I texted my friend that morning telling him I thought I'd be the dumbest person in the room. He told me that wouldn't happen, and he was right. Most of the time, while the world tells him he's extraordinary, I'm the one telling him he's an idiot. What are good friends for if not that?

What I found at that conference was a new appreciation for how he mentored me. He didn't degrade me. He didn't tell me I'd never reach his level or that I was incapable, which is what many people with microphones at that event made others feel. Instead, he told me to get on it, helped me get started, and then made me figure things out.

After being friends for over a decade, he's learned that if he tells me I can't do something, I'll absolutely try. He got me into pilot school the same way. When I first tried to upgrade Penelope and accidentally killed her, I asked for help. He told me our friendship wasn't going to turn into him being my IT support, and that I needed to figure it out.

I'm not telling you this to make him sound mean. It made me think, "Well, screw you, buddy," and I did figure it out. I found the tools, fixed everything, and sent him a photo with my tongue out telling him I didn't need him. That was his plan all along. I just played right into his hands.

Here's my background: I was homeless as a child. At 5, I moved in with a man who became my dad. We were lower-class farmers. My first degree is as a pastry chef. I later put myself through school as a single mom for a business degree. Everything I've learned about AI has been since November. I didn't even know what my terminal was until he showed me.

So if you think you can't use AI or figure it out, I am living proof that's not true.

I made my job completely automated in 3 hours. Instead of that scaring me, after Penelope and I did it, all I could think was… "Hmm, what can I do now? I have 9 hours back. What else can I do?"

It didn't make me scared. It felt like a weight was lifted. What I needed to feed my kids was now done in such little effort that I could explore anything else I dared to think of.

My new AI partner didn't replace me. She evened the playing field to the point where I can now go anywhere I want, if I learn to orchestrate her correctly.
